Weldability Sif has taken on a new recruit
Weldability Sif is a keen Industry Supporter of the UK National SkillWeld Welding Competition
Weldability Sif, UK based “one stop shop” for all welding products has taken on a new recruit, in the form of “Motorman” a 2.05 m. high metallic sculpture, who was introduced to the public in November at the Skills Show in the NEC Birmingham.
“There was a regular queue of students wanting to have their photo taken alongside him.” said Steve Purnell, Marketing Manager at Weldability Sif
Visitors to the show were amazed by Motorman and that such an impressive piece of sculpture could be assembled using scrapped parts and components. Steve continued: “Motorman clearly demonstrates the importance of welding as a craft, which is why the Company wanted to acquire it. It’s all very Gothic and he invites viewers to come closer for a good look at the jagged puzzle of parts. The students liked him so much drawings of him by students could be seen on the art wall at the Show! ”
Motorman was put together by German artist, Armin Ciesielski, one of three German metal sculptors who work together and have turned their talents to constructing grim aliens and predators from scrap metal and are now also recreating a few iconic and unobtainable automobiles from recycled, truck and automobile parts.
Armin and his colleagues Peter Brakel and Walter Willer - Giganten aus Stahl Giants of Steel - are one of the first to offer 100% recycling artworks and they can even customize sculptures from a customer supplied plan or a simple sketch. Most of Armin’s sculptures are authentic look-alikes from the movie industry and last year, his sculptures were presented to the public at several exhibitions and fairs in Europe.
His sculptures are one of a kind, with every one of his works remaining unique worldwide - even if the same character has been already produced! Each sculpture is assembled and welded in an artistic manner, made up from more than one thousand single items. The ‘Giants of Steel’ have been working together for 6 years and have attracted a huge number of enthusiasts in the Europe, USA, Japan and the Middle East. Their sculptures are unusual, but with a high degree of skilled workmanship.
Steve Purnell summed up: “The Group’s sculptures have been shown in Germany and one of the latest examples of Motorman, we understand, has recently been supplied to Mercedes Benz’s German Headquarters. Our Motorman can currently be seen in our reception area at Letchworth Garden City, but he will be allowed out to visit exhibitions that we will be taking part in over the years to come.”
